At a time when customer service really makes the difference, the people at Go Hire take the idea of service to new heights.
Managing director Peter Hinde is contactable 24 hours a day for genuine emergencies and the company prides itself on doing that little bit extra.
``For example, when the Moscow Circus visited Wollongong recently amid a huge deluge, there was a great deal of trouble with the water-soaked ground.
``This meant, against all tradition, that the show could not go on on the first scheduled night," he said.
``I had just arrived at work early the next morning when I received a call for help for some flooring.
``We were able to load a truck immediately with what was needed and in less than three hours had the floor down so the circus could present its morning performance.
``The circus people were great and it was a pleasure to help."
On another occasion, in the early hours of one morning, Mr Hinde dispatched a truck load of materials to the Far South Coast where a shop had burned down but the proprietor wanted to keep trading.
``We set up a huge marquee in the car park, enabling business to be almost as usual."
Phone calls after midnight are no novelty to the Go Hire team which swings into action to do whatever it can to help.
``Just after midnight one time I received a call from a desperate milkman whose delivery van had broken down," Mr Hinde said.
``He just had to deliver the milk so I opened the yard, he hired a truck and away he went, happy that his customers would not be disadvantaged.
``We pride ourselves on being versatile enough to respond to most requests for emergency assistance."
